Moanalua graduate and UNLV product John Oda finished the first round of the TPC San Antonio Challenge at the Canyons on top of the leaderboard on Thursday.
Oda fired off a stellar bogey-free round of 64, putting him at tied at the top of the leaderboard at 8-under par. The 24-year-old did most of his damage on the par-5 holes with two eagles to go with four other birdies on his card. His 64 is one off his career best round of 63 on the Korn Ferry Tour.
Fittingly, the Hawai’i native’s best finish came on another island course, as he finished in a tie for second earlier this year in the Bahamas. Oda is still searching for his first Korn Ferry win, but another strong finish this week keeps him in the hunt for the Tour’s season-long Top 25, which awards players a PGA Tour Card for the following season.
‘Iolani graduate Lorens Chan, is also in this week’s field. He is tied for 77th on the leaderboard after the first round.
